Self Reiki

Thanks, +Tammy Rounds for reminding me it's important to take care of myself. This is a busy week with Thanksgiving guests arriving, and grandkids spending the night Friday. From Angie Webster on ReikiRays.com we read:
"When you give Reiki to yourself you are staying directly in touch with the sensation of offering and receiving Reiki. For those that are new to Reiki, acquainting yourself with these sensations is helpful."
Yes, I am new to Reiki, but have felt the source of strength in the past while raising my children. Now they are grown, and those same feelings come to my heart with each grandchild. I love watching them grow, and the ability a "grandma" has to be an influence for good.

How deep and ancient are our roots?

These regal aspen near my sister's cabin in the mountains west of Heber City are apparently part of the ancient Pando colony.
"Aspens typically grow in large clonal colonies, derived from a single seedling, and spread by means of root suckers; new stems in the colony may appear at up to 30–40 m (98–131 ft) from the parent tree. Each individual tree can live for 40–150 years above ground, but the root system of the colony is long-lived. In some cases, this is for thousands of years, sending up new trunks as the older trunks die off above ground. For this reason, it is considered to be an indicator of ancient woodlands. One such colony in Utah, given the nickname of "Pando", is estimated to be 80,000 years old, making it possibly the oldest living colony of aspens. Some aspen colonies become very large with time, spreading about 1 m (3.3 ft) per year, eventually covering many hectares. They are able to survive forest fires, because the roots are below the heat of the fire, with new sprouts growing after the fire burns out." See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspen
Can we also weather the heat of the fire?

Late?

"Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!" says the White Rabbit.

Am I rushing around, completely missing the joy in the moment?

Sentinel

A dear friend stopped by unexpectedly to bring me a small gift - a white calla lily. She had no way of knowing this is what my parents grew in their yard. When my husband and I were married five years ago, I carried a single large white calla lily in remembrance of them. Thanks to Claire, I'm feeling closer to Dad and Blanche. It's a calming thing, a tender mercy, a sentinel.

Sentinel - someone whose job is to stand and keep watch.
